William Henry "Bill" Gates III(born October 28, 1955) is an American business magnate, philanthropist, and chairman of Microsoft, the software company he founded with Paul Allen. He is consistently ranked among the world's wealthiest people and the wealthiest overall from 1995 to 2010, excluding 2007. During his career at Microsoft, Gates held the positions of CEO and chief software architect, and remains the largest individual shareholder with more than 8 percent of the common stock.

Using a music recommender system called "Audioscrobbler", Last. fm builds a detailed profile of each user's musical taste by recording details of the songs the user listens to, either from Internet radio stations, or the user's computer or many portable music devices.

Rate Your Music (or RYM) is a metadata database where musical (and non-musical) albums, EPs, singles, videos, and bootlegs are rated and reviewed by users. This data is then used to generate recommendations for users and to create rated lists of albums. Weighted averages are used to calculate the ordering for these lists; regular members who write reviews and rate more albums have a greater weight applied to their ratings.

On!Air!Library! was a post-rock/ambient/Experimental rock band from New York City. Twin sisters Claudia Deheza and Alley Deheza met up with Phillip Wann to form the group in 1998. Through playing at local venues and parties, the trio eventually landed a deal with Arena Rock Recording Co. in 2002, and in 2003, a split record with The Album Leaf exposed the band to a wider audience, paving the way for their full-length, self-titled, debut album in 2004.

The Pains of Being Pure At Heart are an indie pop band from New York City. Their first album was a self-released EP which came out in 2007 through the Painbow label. Their debut self-titled full length album was released on February 3, 2009 via Slumberland Records. The band name comes from an unpublished children's story of the same title that a friend of singer Kip Berman wrote. The group's self-titled album peaked at #9 on the Billboard Heatseekers chart.

Joseph Ferocious (Joseph D'Agostino) and Matthew Miller attended Southern Regional High School in Manahawkin, New Jersey where they graduated in the class of 2006 together. According to their website: Their debut album Why There Are Mountains was included in Pitchfork Media's "Best New Music", earning 8.3/10 in its review. The LP version of the album is currently only available via Insound.
