Summary

The HNoMS Nor was a Vale class gunboat built for the Royal Norwegian Navy at Horten Naval Yard in 1878. She was one of a class of five gunboats - the other ships in the class was Vale, Brage, Uller and Vidar. Nor was, in addition to the heavy, muzzle-loading main gun, armed with a small 'Quick Fire' gun and an early automatic gun, similar to the Gatling gun. Later Nor and her sister ships was rebuilt as mine layers, and she served in this role when the Germans invaded in 1940. More information...

The class has an ice operating classification of ICE-1A and can operate around the year. The design included some first attempts on stealth technology in the Finnish Navy. During a crisis the main task for the Hämeenmaa class ships is minelaying, but the vessels can also act as escort, transport and depot ships.
