  • Snow White is a fairy tale known from many countries in Europe, the best known version being the German one collected by the Brothers Grimm. The German version features elements such as the magic mirror and the seven dwarfs, who were first given individual names in the 1912 Broadway play Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and then given different names in Disney's 1937 film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

  • Sleeping Beauty a fairy tale classic, the first in the set published in 1697 by Charles Perrault, Contes de ma Mère l'Oye ("Tales of Mother Goose"). Sleeping Beauty is a fairy tale which involves a beautiful princess and a handsome prince. While Perrault's version is better known, an older version, the tale Sun, Moon, and Talia, was contained in Giambattista Basile's Pentamerone (published 1634).

  • Tom Thumb is a traditional hero in English folklore who is no bigger than his father's thumb. Various allusions to Tom Thumb are included in sixteenth century works; in his Discovery of Witchcraft, Reginald Scot includes Tom Thumbe in a list of folkloric creatures such as witches and satyrs that nursemaids told their charges about until the children were frightened of their own shadows. Folktales featuring Tom Thumb as the hero appear in print in the seventeenth century.

The story follows a young brother and sister who discover a house of candy and cake in the forest and a child-devouring witch.   • Rumpelstiltskin is a character in a fairy tale of the same name that originated in Germany (where he is known as Rumpelstilzchen). The tale was collected by the Brothers Grimm, who first published it in the 1812 edition of Children's and Household Tales. It was subsequently revised in later editions until the final version was published in 1857.
