During a career lasting from 1947–1975, he was considered to be one of the most important innovators in hockey. Cherry co-hosts the "Coach's Corner" intermission segment on the long running Canadian sports program Hockey Night in Canada, and in addition recently joined ESPN in the United States as a commentator during the latter stages of the Stanley Cup playoffs.
