•  Ferdinand II of León

  Ferdinand II (1137 – 22 January 1188) was King of León and Galicia from 1157 to his death. Born in Toledo, Castile, he was the son of King Alfonso VII of Castile and León and of Berenguela, of the House of Barcelona. At his father's death, he received the León and Galicia, while his brother Sancho received Castile and Toledo. Ferdinand earned the reputation of a good knight and hard fighter, but did not display political or organising faculty.

  Minamoto no Yoshitomo (源 義朝, 1123 - February 11, 1160) was the head of the Minamoto clan and a general of the late Heian period of Japanese history. His son Minamoto no Yoritomo became shogun and founded the Kamakura Shogunate, the first shogunate in the history of Japan.

  Infanta Urraca of Portugal was a Portuguese infanta (princess), daughter of Afonso I, 1st King of Portugal and his wife Maud of Savoy. She married Ferdinand II of León (c. 1165) with whom she had Alfonso IX of León. This marriage didn't prevent her father Afonso I from declaring war on his son-in-law. This short war culminated in disaster when Afonso was captured in Badajoz. Perhaps due to his marriage to Urraca, Ferdinand was generous to Afonso, and let him leave.

  Jon Ingesson Kuvlung was a pretender to the crown of Norway. He claimed to be a son of king Inge the Hunchback, though Sverris saga claims this to have been false. Jon was a young cleric when he was set up to the task of figurehead. The name Kuvlung derives from Old Norse name for monk cloak, kuvl. Jon Kuvlung ruled in the region of Viken as rival king until killed by Birkebeiners in Bergen in 1188. Since 1130 there had been several interlocked civil wars of varying scale and intensity.

  Emperor Shizong (1123–1189) of the Jin Dynasty was Emperor of Jin from 1161 to 1189. His Jurchen name was Wanyan Wulu (完顏烏祿, Wányán Wūlù), Chinese name, Wanyan Yong (完顏雍, Wányán Yōng) and Wanyan Bao (完顏褒, Wányán Bāo). The era name was Dading (大定, Dàdìng).

  Eysteinn Erlendsson (Modern Norwegian Øystein Erlendsson, Latin Augustinus Nidrosiensis) (died 26 January 1188) was Archbishop of Nidaros from 1161 to his death in 1188. His family came from Trøndelag, and he was related to most of the local nobility. He was educated at Saint-Victor, in Paris. As a priest he served as steward to King Inge Krokrygg of Norway. When Archbishop Jon Birgersson died 24 February 1157, Inge appointed Eysteinn as the new archbishop.

  Osbern Pinnock of Gloucester (1123–1200) was an English Benedictine monk of St. Peter's Abbey, Gloucester, and a lexicographical writer. His Panormia, or Derivationes (Liber Derivationum), was a Latin word list compiled from about 1150 to 1180. It contained elements of both the glossary of rarer words, and derivations and so was innovative; but at this stage the two aspects were kept separate.

•  Tokiwa Gozen

  Tokiwa Gozen (常盤御前) (1123 – c. 1180), or Lady Tokiwa, was a Japanese noblewoman of the late Heian period and mother of the great samurai general Minamoto no Yoshitsune. Sources disagree as to whether she was a concubine or wife to Minamoto no Yoshitomo, to whom she bore in either case three sons, including Yoshitsune. She was later captured by Taira no Kiyomori, who she served as a concubine in exchange for assurances of the safety of her family.

  A pointing breed is a type of gundog typically used in finding game. Gundogs are traditionally divided into three classes: retrievers, flushing dogs, and pointing breeds. The name pointer comes from the dog's instinct to point, by stopping and aiming its muzzle towards game. This demonstrates to the hunter the location of his or her quarry and allows them to move into gun range. Pointers were selectively bred for dogs who had abundant pointing and backing instinct.

  Captain Arthur Andrew Cipriani (1875-1945) was a [Trinidad and Tobago] labour leader and politician. He served as mayor of Port of Spain, elected member of the Legislative Council, leader of the Trinidad Workingmen's Association and founder of the Trinidad Labour Party.
