•  Pope Sixtus II

  Pope Sixtus II or Pope Saint Sixtus II (a corruption of Greek Ξυστος, Xystus, "polished") was Pope from August 30, 257 to August 6, 258. He died as a martyr during the persecution by Emperor Valerian. According to the Liber Pontificalis, he was Greek by birth; however this is uncertain and disputed by modern western historians arguing that the authors of Liber Pontificalis confused him with that of the contemporary author Xystus who was Greek student of Pythagoreanism.

He was born circa the beginning of the 3rd century in North Africa, perhaps at Carthage, where he received a classical education.   Xiahou Dun (? – 13 June 220) was a military general under the powerful warlord Cao Cao during the late Eastern Han Dynasty and Three Kingdoms era of China. Cao Cao's original family name was Xiahou, but his father, Song, was adopted by the Cao family, so Dun and Cao share family relations. One of the most trusted men of Cao Cao's, Xiahou Dun aided the warlord in his campaigns against Liu Bei, Sun Quan, and Lü Bu.

  Zhang Liao (169 – 222) was a military general under the powerful warlord Cao Cao during the late Eastern Han Dynasty and Three Kingdoms era of China. He had participated in many campaigns, including those against Yuan Shao's heirs and the Wuhuan tribes. But he was most noted for his pivotal role in the Battle of Hefei in 208, where he successfully defended the city of Hefei against the advances of Sun Quan's massive army.

  Gongsun Kang (?-221) was a general of the Kingdom of Wei during the Three Kingdoms period. He was born to Gongsun Du, Governor of Liaodong. In 204 Kang took over the position with the territories of Liaodong, Xuantu and Lelang. He was nominally subject to Cao Cao while keeping his domain semiindependent. In 207 he pleased Cao Cao in killing Yuan Shang (袁尚), the last attested member of the clans of Yuan Shao and escaped the conquest of Cao Cao to Liaodong.

•  Antipope Novatian

  Novatian (circa 200 – 258) was a scholar and antipope who held the title between 251 and 258. He was a noted theologian and writer, the first Roman theologian who used the Latin language, at a time when there was much debate about how to deal with Christians who had lapsed and wished to return, and the issue of penance. Consecrated as pope by three bishops in 251, he adopted a more rigorous position than the established Pope, Cornelius.

•  Chants d'Auvergne

  Chants d'Auvergne ("Songs from the Auvergne") is a collection of folk songs from the Auvergne region of France arranged for soprano voice and orchestra by Joseph Canteloube between 1923–1930. The songs are in the local language, Occitan. The first recording, of eleven of the songs, was by Madeleine Grey in 1930. The songs are part of the standard repertoire and have been recorded by many singers. BBC Radio 3 recommends the recording by Dawn Upshaw on Erato.
