He served as the Deputy Chief of Mission in Lebanon 1994–96 and ambassador to Cyprus 2006–08. On September 2, 2008, he assumed the position of Principal Deputy Assistant Coordinator for Counterterrorism. Schlicher is an alumnus of the University of Tennessee.
