    • In Japanese, encyclopedias are known as hyakka jiten (百科事典), which literally means "book of a hundred subjects," and can trace their origins to the early Heian period, in the ninth century. Encyclopedic works were published in Japan for well over a thousand years before Japan's first modern encyclopedias were published after Japan's opening to the West, during the Meiji Period (1868-1912).
    • Helge Thiis (1897-1972) was a Norwegian architect. He was also an art critic in Nationen, Oslo from 1924 to 1929 and leader of Nidaros domkirkes restaureringsarbeider from 1930 to 1972. He was the son of Jens Thiis. In 1929 he won the competition for the reconstruction of the Nidaros Cathedral. His victorious entry was based on a supposed relationship with English patterns. The west front was created as a screen front. Most of it was covered with recesses for statues in the French Gothic style.
