    • There are 23 national parks in Poland. These were formerly run by the Polish Board of National Parks (Krajowy Zarząd Parków Narodowych), but in 2004 responsibility for them was transferred to the Ministry of the Environment. At present, Scotland has two national parks: Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park, created in 2002, and the Cairngorms National Park, created in 2003. Sweden became the first country in Europe to establish such parks when the Parliament of Sweden passed a law on national parks in 1909 and nine were established the same year.

The archaic English spelling for the name was Boloristan, and its first known documented usage is in Chinese sources from the 8th century CE.
