  The San Francisco – Oakland Bay Bridge (known locally as the Bay Bridge) is a series of bridges in the San Francisco Bay Area of California, in the United States. Forming part of Interstate 80 and of the direct road route between San Francisco and Oakland, it carries approximately 270,000 vehicles per day on its two decks. It has one of the longest spans in the world. The toll bridge was conceived as early as the gold rush days, but construction did not begin until 1933. Designed by Charles H.

  Interstate 880 (I-880) is an Interstate Highway in the San Francisco Bay Area connecting San Jose and Oakland, running parallel to the southeastern shore of San Francisco Bay. For most of its route, I-880 is officially known as the Nimitz Freeway after World War II admiral Chester Nimitz, who retired to the Bay Area and lived on Yerba Buena Island.   Interstate 580 (I-580) is an 80-mile (129 km) north–south Interstate Highway in Northern California. The heavily traveled spur route of Interstate 80 connects the San Francisco Bay Area to Interstate 5 in the state's Central Valley, providing access from San Francisco to the southern San Joaquin Valley and Southern California.   Interstate 780 (I-780) is an Interstate Highway in the San Francisco Bay Area of the U.S. state of California. It serves to connect Interstate 80 in Vallejo with Interstate 680 just north of the Benicia-Martinez Bridge in Benicia. Originally, this segment was part of I-680 before that Interstate was extended and rerouted to Cordelia. The city-maintained Curtola Parkway continues west from I-80 to State Route 29 in Vallejo.

  Interstate 980 (I-980) is a short Interstate Highway spur entirely within Oakland, California connecting Interstate 580 and State Route 24 to Interstate 880 near downtown Oakland in the U.S. state of California. I-980 passes the Oakland Convention Center and near the famous Jack London Square. I-980 is commonly considered the dividing line between Downtown Oakland and West Oakland.

  U.S. Route 40 is an east–west United States highway. As with most routes whose numbers end in a zero, U.S. 40 once traversed the entire United States. It is one of the original 1920s U.S. Highways, and its first termini were San Francisco, California, and Atlantic City, New Jersey. The western end has been truncated several times, and the route now ends at Interstate 80 just outside of Park City, Utah, near Salt Lake City. Starting at its western terminus in Utah, U.S.

  Interstate 280 (I-280) is a 57 mile (92 km) long north–south Interstate Highway in the San Francisco Bay Area of Northern California. It connects San Jose and San Francisco, running along just to the west of the cities of San Francisco Peninsula for most of its route.   Interstate 380 (I-380) is a short 3.3-mile (5.3 km) east–west spur Interstate Highway in the San Francisco Bay Area of Northern California, connecting Interstate 280 in San Bruno to U.S. Route 101 near the San Francisco International Airport (SFO). The highway primarily consists of only three intersections: I-280, El Camino Real, and U.S. 101. However, I-380 never connects to Interstate 80, its parent interstate. •  English Civil War

  The English Civil War (1641–1651) was a series of armed conflicts and political machinations between Parliamentarians and Royalists. The first (1642–46) and second (1648–49) civil wars pitted the supporters of King Charles I against the supporters of the Long Parliament, while the third war (1649–51) saw fighting between supporters of King Charles II and supporters of the Rump Parliament.
