An external combustion engine (EC engine) is a heat engine where an (internal) working fluid is heated by combustion of an external source, through the engine wall or a heat exchanger. The fluid then, by expanding and acting on the mechanism of the engine produces motion and usable work. The fluid is then cooled, compressed and reused (closed cycle), or (less commonly) dumped, and cool fluid pulled in (open cycle air engine).
Josef Strauss (August 20, 1827 - July 22, 1870) was an Austrian composer. He was born in Vienna, the son of Johann Strauss I and brother of Johann Strauss II and Eduard Strauss. His academic achievements at an early age do not point to his being a composer. His father thought he was best suited for a career in the Austrian Habsburg military, nevertheless, he studied music theory with Franz Dolleschal and learned to play the violin with Franz Anton.
A glacial lake is a lake with origins in a melted glacier. Near the end of the last ice age, roughly 10,000 years ago, glaciers began to retreat. A retreating glacier often leaves behind large deposits of ice in hollows between drumlins or hills. As the ice age ends, these will melt to create lakes. This is apparent in the English Lake District in Northwestern England where post-glacial sediments are normally between 4 and 6 meters deep.
