Overview

Summary

Parallel Galaxy is the first solo album recorded by Emmett Chapman, playing Chapman Stick, and it was released in 1985. This represented both an example of Chapman's artistry on the Stick, and also showed other musicians what was possible on the Stick. Though not a top-selling album, it inspired many musicians to pick up the Stick. The track "Back Yard" appears in the "Alan Smithee" version of the 1984 film Dune. The entire album was recorded without overdubs. More information...

    • Tim is an album released in October 1985 on Sire Records by the alternative rock band The Replacements. It was their first major label release. It was also the last album made by the original line-up of the band: guitarist Bob Stinson was kicked out of the band shortly after the album's release. Tim's mainstream commercial success, like its predecessors, was moderate at best, despite the critical acclaim it garnered. The album peaked at #183 on the Billboard Music Chart's Top 200.

    • 7800° Fahrenheit is Bon Jovi's second album, and was released in April 1985. It introduced the classic '80s Bon Jovi logo that would later on be used in Slippery When Wet and New Jersey. Approximate sales were in excess of one million copies. The singles "In and Out of Love" and "Only Lonely" both charted in the Billboard Hot 100 (although both failed to reach the top 40 status of "Runaway" from the previous album), and still get occasional airplay on US AOR and hard rock format radio stations.

    • In My Head was the last studio album released by Black Flag. This album followed the album Loose Nut and was discredited by many Black Flag fans for sounding much different than their earlier work. It was released in 1985 on SST Records. The CD reissue adds three of the four songs from the I Can See You EP, replicating the original 1985 cassette release which came out concurrent to the LP.

    • Frankenchrist is the third album released by the American hardcore punk band Dead Kennedys in 1985 on Alternative Tentacles. The album was a subject of controversy because of a poster inserted in the original record sleeve. The poster, H. R. Giger's Landscape #XX, or Penis Landscape, was a painting depicting rows of penises and vulvas.

    • Foreign Keys is the second album released in 1985 by musician Jandek, and his eleventh overall. It finds him returning to the band sound with a vengeance, and is the first all-band Jandek album, with no acoustic numbers whatsoever. It's also an album almost split down the middle between tracks sung by the main artist and those by his female counterpart, assumed to be "Nancy" (it is certainly the same vocalist from "Nancy Sings" on Chair Beside a Window).
