•  Jungfraubahn

  The Jungfraubahn (JB) is an 1,000 mm (3 ft 3+⁄8 in) gauge rack railway electrified at 3-phase 1,125 volts, which runs 9 kilometres from Kleine Scheidegg to the highest railway station in Europe at Jungfraujoch. The railway runs almost entirely within a tunnel built into the Eiger and Mönch mountains and contains two stations in the middle of the tunnel, where passengers can disembark to observe the neighbouring mountains through windows built into the mountainside.

•  Wengernalpbahn

  Wengernalpbahn (or WAB) is a 19.091 km long, 800 mm (2 ft 7+⁄2 in) gauge rack railway line in Switzerland, which runs from Lauterbrunnen and Grindelwald (two branches) to Kleine Scheidegg, making it the world's longest continuous cogwheel railway. At Kleine Scheidegg passengers transfer to the Jungfraubahn for the continuation of the journey to the highest railway station in Europe at Jungfraujoch.

•  Lauterbrunnen

  Lauterbrunnen is a municipality in the Interlaken-Oberhasli administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland. The municipality lies in the Lauterbrunnen Valley and comprises the villages Lauterbrunnen, Wengen, Mürren, Gimmelwald, Stechelberg and Isenfluh. The population of the Lauterbrunnen village is less than that of Wengen, but greater than that of the others.

•  Reichenbach Falls

  The Reichenbach Falls (Reichenbachfall) are a series of waterfalls on the River Aar near Meiringen in Bern canton in central Switzerland. They have a total drop of 250 m (820 ft). At 90 m (295.2 ft), the Upper Reichenbach Falls is one of the highest cataracts in the Alps. The falls are made accessible by the Reichenbachfall-Bahn funicular railway. Today, a hydro-electric power company harnesses the flow of the Reichenbach Falls during certain times of year, greatly reducing its flow.

•  Lake Thun

  Lake Thun is an Alpine lake in the Bernese Oberland in Switzerland. It took its name from the city of Thun, on its northern shore. Lake Thun's approximately 2,500 km² large catchment area frequently causes local flooding after heavy rainfalls. This occurs because the river Aar, which drains Lake Thun, has only limited capacity to handle the excess runoff.

•  Lake Brienz

  Lake Brienz is a lake just north of the Alps, in the Canton of Berne in Switzerland. The lake took its name from the village Brienz on its northern shore. Interlaken and the villages Matten and Unterseen lie to the south west of the lake. The shores are steep, and there is almost no shallow water in the entire lake. Lake Brienz is the first lake in which river Aar expands. When it leaves Lake Brienz, it soon joins Lake Thun.

•  Harderbahn

  The Harderbahn is one of two funiculars that operate in the town of Interlaken. This funicular, the longest of the two, runs from a base station (altitude 567m above sea level) to a station near the summit of the Harder Kulm (altitude 1321.31m), Interlaken’s own mountain.

•  Brienz Rothorn Bahn

  The Brienz Rothorn Bahn (BRB) is an 800 mm (2 ft 7+⁄2 in) gauge tourist rack railway in Switzerland, which climbs from Brienz, at the eastern end of Lake Brienz, to the summit of the Brienzer Rothorn mountain. The two designers, engineer Alexander Lindner and contractor Theo Bertschinger were supported by the mountain railway pioneer Roman Abt, who had responsibility for equipping the line with his newly developed double lamella rack system.

•  Pat Symonds

  Patrick (Pat) Bruce Reith Symonds (born 11 June 1953 in England) is the former Executive Director of Engineering of the Renault Formula One team. After Gresham's School, Holt, Symonds worked in the lower motor sport categories and joined the Toleman team in the early 1980s. As Toleman grew, was taken over to become Benetton, and was subsequently sold and renamed Renault F1, Symonds remained with the team and worked his way through the technical ranks.
