  • Republika Srpska listen is one of two main political entities of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the other being the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Republika Srpska is defined in its constitution as a territorially unified, indivisible and inalienable constitutional and legal entity that shall independently perform its constitutional, legislative, executive and judicial functions. The National Assembly and the government are based in Banja Luka, although Sarajevo remains the official capital.

Additionally, Dushanbe, the capital city, is independent of viloyat-level administrative divisions. Each region is divided into districts (raion or nohiya), which are further subdivided into jamoats, and then villages (deha's). Tajikistan has a total of 59 districts.

  • The Republic of Ingushetia is a federal subject of Russia, located in the North Caucasus region with its capital at Magas. The republic is the smallest of Russia's federal subjects except two federal cities, Moscow and Saint Petersburg.   • Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Province is an autonomous, mountainous province in the east of Tajikistan. Located in the Pamir Mountains, it makes up 45% of the land area of the country but only 3% of the population. The Tajik name Kuhistoni-Badakhshon, now the official name of the province, expresses the meaning Mountainous Badakhshan, which is equivalent to Gorno-Badakhshan, a standard construction derived from Горный Бадахшан (Gornîy Badakhšan) in Russian.

  • Sughd is one of the four administrative divisions and one of the three provinces that make up Tajikistan. Centered in the historical Sogdiana, it is located in the northwest of the country, with an area of some 25,400 square kilometers and a population of 2,132,100 (2008 est. ), up from 1,870,000 according to the 2000 census and 1,558,000 in 1989. The province shares a border with the Jizakh, Namagan, Samarkand and Fergana provinces of Uzbekistan, and the Osh and Batken provinces of Kyrgyzstan.

  • Region of Republican Subordination, formerly known as Karotegin Province, is a region in Tajikistan, consisting of 13 districts which are directly under central rule. Karotegin is the historic name of the Rasht Valley and a historic political region in pre-Soviet Central Asia that is today part of Tajikistan. The Karotegin region was also named Garm, though Garm is also the name of a city and the Garmi ethnic group.
