  • Midnight Oil is a self-titled debut album by Australian band Midnight Oil that was recorded in 1977 and released in November, 1978 on the band's independent Sprint Music label. The album was later distributed by CBS Records. The LP had a blue cover, however, the CD had a black cover. Because of the blue cover, it often referred to as the "blue album" or "the Blue Meanie. • Heavy Horses is an album released by Jethro Tull on April 10, 1978. It is considered the second album in a trilogy of folk-rock albums by Jethro Tull, although folk music's influence is evident on a great number of Jethro Tull releases. The album abandons much of the folk lyrical content typical of the previous studio album, Songs from the Wood, in exchange for a more perspective on the changing world. Likewise, the band sound is harder and tighter.

  • Seven Worlds is Eric Johnson's 1978 solo record after disbanding with his first band, The Electromagnets. The album was recorded in 1976 and 1977. Due to various disputes, general release was held up until Johnson obtained the rights to the master recordings, twenty years later. Johnson subsequently re-recorded the tracks "Zap" and "Emerald Eyes" for his first general release album, 1986's Tones.

  • Long Live Rock 'n' Roll is the third studio album released by Rainbow, released in 1978. Although Bob Daisley & David Stone are listed on the album credits for their contributions they joined the band part way through the recording sessions and only appear on a couple of tracks. (Stone part wrote "Gates of Babylon" but was never credited). Blackmore played most of the bass parts himself for the album.

  • Pieces of Eight is the eighth studio album and second concept album by Styx, released September 1, 1978. The album was the band's follow-up to their Triple Platinum selling The Grand Illusion album. The band members produced the album and recorded it (like their previous three efforts) at Paragon Studios in Chicago with recording engineer Barry Mraz and mixing engineer Rob Kingsland. "I'm O. K" was recorded at Paragon and St. James Cathedral, because of the pipe organ.
