The Universidad de Xalapa is a university in the city of Xalapa, Veracruz, Mexico. The institution was founded in 1992 by Carlos Garcia Hernandez as a response to the demand from youngsters with not much career options in the area. It is considered as the pioneer of the private universities in the city which now includes more than a dozen schools.
Xalapa-Enríquez, commonly Xalapa or Jalapa is the capital city of the Mexican state of Veracruz and the name of the surrounding municipality. In the year 2005 census the city reported a population of 387,879 and the municipality of which it serves as municipal seat reported a population of 413,136. Benediktas Mikulis was a Lithuanian partisan who lived in hiding for 27 years – first from the Nazis during World War II and later from the Soviets during the Cold War. The Mikulis family homestead is located in Prazariškės village in Žaislai elderate. Benediktas Mikulis resided under a stack of potatoes in a cellar crawlspace so small that it was often referred to as a coffin. He lost the tips of several fingers to rats while in hiding.
