•  German submarine U-215

  German submarine U-215 was a Type VIID mine-laying U-boat of the German Kriegsmarine during World War II. U-215 was one of six U-boats of its kind, equipped with special vertical tubes that launched mines. Her keel was laid down 15 November 1940 by Germaniawerft in Kiel. She was commissioned on 22 November 1941 with Kapitänleutnant Fritz Hoeckner in command.

  ORP Gryf was a large Polish Navy minelayer, sunk during the 1939 German invasion of Poland. She was one of two large Polish ships that were not evacuated to Great Britain during Operation Peking prior to the outbreak of the Polish Defensive War (Wicher was the other). She was sunk in Hel harbour on 3 September 1939 during the opening stage of World War II.

  German submarine U-219 was a Type XB submarine of the German Kriegsmarine during World War II. The U-boat was laid down on 31 May 1941 at the Germaniawerft yard at Kiel, launched on 6 October 1942, and commissioned on 12 December 1942 under the command of Korvettenkapitän Walter Burghagen.

•  Finnish minelayer Pohjanmaa

  The Pohjanmaa class minelayer is a minelayer in use by the Finnish Navy. There is currently only one Pohjanmaa class vessel in service in the Finnish Navy. She is the flagship of the navy. The ship has an ice operating classification of ICE-1A so she can operate all year round. During a crisis the main task for Pohjanmaa is mine laying and acting as a command ship. She also acts as a school ship for the Naval Academy cadets. Part of their training includes an annual cruise abroad.

  The Hämeenmaa class minelayers is a two vessel strong class of minelayers, used by the Finnish Navy. The ships have a steel hull and alloy superstructure. The class has an ice operating classification of ICE-1A and can operate around the year. The design included some first attempts on stealth technology in the Finnish Navy. During a crisis the main task for the Hämeenmaa class ships is minelaying, but the vessels can also act as escort, transport and depot ships.

•  HMS Abdiel (M39)

  HMS Abdiel (M39) was an Abdiel-class minelayer that served with the Royal Navy during World War II. She served with the Mediterranean Fleet (1941), Eastern Fleet (1942), Home Fleet (1942-43), and the Mediterranean Fleet (1943). Abdiel was sunk by mines in Taranto harbour in 1943. Although designed as a fast minelayer her speed and capacity made her suitable for employment as a fast transport.

•  HMS Ariadne (M65)

  HMS Ariadne was an Abdiel-class minelayer of the Royal Navy. She was built by Alexander Stephen and Sons of Glasgow, Scotland. She was laid down on 10 October 1941, launched on 5 April 1943 and commissioned on 12 February 1944. Her first duty was to lay mines off the coast of Norway. She was also one of the ships taking part in Operation Stonewall. She then left Home waters in January 1944 to join the United States Seventh Fleet in the Pacific Ocean theater of war.

  Groton is a town located on the Thames River in New London County, Connecticut, United States. The population was 39,907 at the 2000 census. Groton is the home of the Electric Boat Corporation, which is the major contractor for submarine work for the United States Navy, and the Navy's SUBASE New London.
