Mario Alberto Kempes é um dos maiores ex-futebolistas argentinos da história. Após ser rejeitado pelo Boca Juniors, começou a jogar no Córdoba e depois foi para o Rosário Central antes de estrear pela Seleção Argentina em 1973, contra a Bolívia. Ele compensou sua falta de gols em 1974, sendo artilheiro em 1978. Com dois na final contra a Holanda, em que a Argentina venceu.
