It was founded in 1629 by Samuel Harsnett, a former Archbishop of York (even though G. Stott suggests it was more likely founded around 1620-3). There are around 730 pupils aged between 7 and 18 years. The school is situated between Epping Forest and Hainault Forest, ten miles from London.
  • Ambresbury Banks is the name given to the remains of an Iron Age hill fort in Epping Forest, Essex, England. According to legend, it is the site of the last stand by Boudica against the Romans in the year 61. There is no evidence to support this; other theories for the location of the battlefield include Mancetter in Warwickshire and Kings Cross in London. The fort encircles an area of 4.5 hectares and is surrounded by a single bank of 2 m (6 ft) in height, together with a ditch.
