    • Ivan 'Ico' Hitrec (April 13, 1911 – 1946) is widely considered as the greatest Croatian football player before World War II. The centre-forward became a legend after scoring twice against then famous Spanish keeper Ricardo Zamora during the first night game in Zagreb between Zagreb and Madrid in 1933.
    • Davor Šuker, (born 1 January, 1968 in Osijek) is a former Croatian footballer. Best known for his goal scoring ability, which has earned him a spot in FIFA top 100 greatest players. He played as a striker for a number of European clubs as well as the Croatian national team, where he is the all-time top goal scorer with 45 goals. Šuker began his footballing career in his hometown, playing for the local first division team Osijek as a 16-year-old.

    • Srečko Katanec (born 16 July 1963 in Ljubljana), is a Slovenian and Yugoslavian former football player and currently the coach of the United Arab Emirates national football team.
    • Mirsad Fazlagić started his football (soccer) career in 1957 playing for a local club in his home town of Čapljina. In 1959 he moved to FK Željezničar, where he also made his debut in the Yugoslavian First League. In 1960, Fazlagić stayed in Sarajevo but switched clubs and made his first appearance for FK Sarajevo. He played 450 matches for FK Sarajevo in the Yugoslavian First League. His farewell match for FK Sarajevo was against Sporting Lisbon at the Stadium Koševo, a 2-2 draw.
    • Asim "Hase" Ferhatović started his professional football career in 1948 for FK Sarajevo. He played also for Fenerbahçe in 1960-61 season and won Turkish League championship. During the 1950s and 1960s, Ferhatović led FK Sarajevo to great heights, and became the club's best and most famous player, scoring 198 goals in 422 games. His greatest personal achievement was becoming lead scorer in the Yugoslavian First League with 19 goals for FK Sarajevo in the 1963/1964 season.
    • Safet Sušić (born 13 April 1955) is a Bosnian former footballer and current manager of the Bosnia and Herzegovina national football team. In his playing days, he operated as playmaking attacking midfielder. In 2010 he was voted PSG's best player of all times by French sport magazine France Football 's readers.

    • Vahidin Musemić was a famous Bosnian football player. During his brilliant career with FK Sarajevo he became one of the team's legends, but he truly became known for his outstanding performances as starting forward for the Yugoslavia national football teams of the 1970s. He earned the nickname Orao (the Eagle) because of his soaring headers. He finished his career at French side OGC Nice.

    • Zvonimir Boban (born 8 October 1968 in Imotski) is a Croatian former football midfielder who played most of his professional career for Serie A club Milan and was a member of the Croatia national team, which he captained to third place at the 1998 FIFA World Cup. He was a playmaker well known for his passing range and vision. Croatia never lost a match when he scored.
