Double Indemnity is an American film noir, directed by Billy Wilder. It starred Fred MacMurray, Barbara Stanwyck and Edward G. Robinson and was based on James M. Cain's 1935 novella of the same title, adapted for film by Wilder and Raymond Chandler. The story was based on a 1927 crime perpetrated by a married Queens woman and her lover.
