  The Magic 8-Ball, manufactured by Mattel, is a toy used for fortune-telling or seeking advice. The device was invented in 1946 by Albert Carter, son of a clairvoyant, who marketed and sold the device with Abe Bookman of the Alabe Crafts Company (a company named for the first letters in Carter's and Bookman's first names). Although Carter is the inventor, Bookman is often credited for the invention of the device. It is a hollow, plastic sphere resembling an oversized, black and white 8-ball.

The name is most closely associated with the football game, which for many years was marketed as "the replica of Association Football".   The EMD F3 was a 1,500-horsepower, B-B freight-hauling diesel locomotive produced between July 1945 and February 1949 by General Motors’ Electro-Motive Division. Final assembly was at GM-EMD's La Grange, Illinois plant. A total of 1,111 cab-equipped lead A units and 696 cabless booster B units were built. The F3 was the third model in GM-EMD's highly successful F-unit series of cab unit freight diesels, and it was the second most produced of the series.

  Tommy Tortoise and Moe Hare is an animated cartoon duo created by Paramount Pictures' Famous Studios. Essentially a clone of The Tortoise and the Hare, they both appeared in theatrical animated shorts during the 1950s, beginning with Winner by a Hare in 1953. Tommy & Moe and the other original Famous characters were purchased by Harvey Comics in 1958, who continued to promote the characters under the name Harveytoons.   Mark Trail is a newspaper comic strip created by the American cartoonist Ed Dodd. Introduced April 15, 1946, the strip centers on environmental and ecological themes. In 2006, King Features syndicated the strip to nearly 175 newspapers. When Mark Trail began, it was syndicated through the New York Post in 1946 to 45 newspapers.   The EMD NW5 was a 1,000 hp (750 kW) road switcher diesel-electric locomotive built by General Motors Electro-Motive Division of La Grange, Illinois between December 1946 and February 1947. A total of 13 were produced, of which the majority (ten locomotives) went to the Great Northern Railway. A further two were delivered to the Union Belt of Detroit (though lettered "Fort Street Union Depot") as their #1 and #2, one of which is still in existence today at the Florida Gulf Coast Railroad Museum.
