Summary

Pedro Tafur (or Pero Tafur) (ca. 1410—ca. 1487) was a Spanish traveler and writer. Born in Córdoba, Tafur traveled across three continents during the years 1436 to 1439. During the voyage, he participated in various battles, visited shrines, and rendered diplomatic services for Juan II of Castile. He visited the Moroccan coast, southern France, the Holy Land, Egypt, Rhodes, Cyprus, Tenedos, Trebizond, and Constantinople. More information...

    • Masuccio Salernitano, born Tommaso Guardati, (1410-1475) was an Italian poet. Born in Salerno or Sorrento, he is best known today for Il Novellino, a collection of 50 "novelle" or short stories, each prefaced by a letter of dedication to a famous person and with an epilogue containing the "moral" of the story. The stories have a strongly anti-clerical bent, which caused Il Novellino to be included in the first Index of Prohibited Books in 1557.
    • Lekë Dukagjini (1410–81) was an Albanian prince who fought against the Ottoman Empire. A contemporary of Skanderbeg, Dukagjini is known for a code of law instituted in northern Albania.

    • William Sinclair (1410–1484), 1st Earl of Caithness (1455–1476), 3rd Earl of Orkney (1455–1470), Baron of Roslin was a Scottish nobleman and the builder of Rosslyn Chapel, in Midlothian. He was the grandson of the explorer Henry Sinclair, 1st Earl of Orkney and son of Henry Sinclair, 2nd Earl of Orkney, for a time protector of the young James Stuart, the later James I of Scotland. He was Lord High Admiral of Scotland, and was Lord Chancellor of Scotland from 1454 to 1456.
    • Uesugi Norizane (上杉 憲実; 1410–1466) was a Japanese samurai of the Uesugi clan who held a number of high government posts during the Muromachi period. Shugo (Constable) of Awa and Kōzuke Province, he was appointed Kantō kanrei (Shogun's deputy in the Kantō region) in 1419, as an assistant to Kantō kubō Ashikaga Mochiuji. When Mochiuji rebelled against the shogunate, and attacked Norizane directly, Norizane complained to the shogunate, and fled to Kōzuke province.
    • Arnold of Egmond (14 July 1410, Egmond-Binnen – 23 February 1473, Grave) was Duke of Guelders, Count of Zutphen. He was son of John II of Egmond and Maria van Arkel. In 1423, Arnold of Egmond, who was still a boy in years, succeeded Duke Reinoud IV. Arnold descends from Reinoud’s sister, Marguerite.

    • Giovanni Bianchini (in Latin, Johannes Blanchinus) (1410 – c. 1469) was a professor of mathematics and astronomy at the University of Ferrara and court astrologer of Leonello d'Este. He was an associate of Georg Purbach and Regiomontanus. In the letters exchanged with Regiomontanus 1463/4 are mentioned works of Bianchini: Primum mobile including astronomical tables, Flores almagesti, Compositio instrumenti.

    • Sir William Calthorpe, (30 January 1410 – 15 November 1494), Knight of the Bath, and Lord of the Manors of Burnham Thorpe, and Ludham, in Norfolk. He is on record as High Sheriff of Norfolk and Suffolk in 1442, 1458 and 1469 and 1479. Calthorpe is recorded on 28 June 1443, when he manumised one of his villeins, and set him free from all future services.
    • Ludwig von Erlichshausen (1410 – 1467) was the 31st Grand Master of the Teutonic Knights, serving from 1449/1450 to 1467. As did his uncle and predecessor Konrad von Erlichshausen, Ludwig came from Ellrichshausen in Swabia, now part of Satteldorf in Baden-Württemberg. Ludwig was aide to Grand Master Paul von Rusdorf 1436-40, Komtur of Schönsee (Wąbrzeźno) near Thorn (Toruń) (1442-47), and Komtur of Mewe (Gniew) (1446-50).

    • Christopher Plunkett, 1st Baron of Dunsany, was an Irish peer. Sir Christopher was the second son of Sir Christopher Plunkett, 1st Baron Killeen; the elder Sir Christopher had married Joan Cusack, heiress of Dunsany Castle and Killeen, and appears to have given Killeen to their elder son, John, and Dunsany to the younger son. A charter of 1439, a few years before his father's death, refers to the younger Sir Christopher as lord of the manor of Dunsany. (Dns. de Dunsany).
    • Sir Thomas de Dacre (1410 – 15 January 1448) was born in Brampton, Cumberland, England. Thomas de Dacre's father was Thomas de Dacre, 6th Baron Dacre and his mother was Philippa de Neville. He married Elizabeth Bowett, daughter of Sir William Bowett of Horsford and Amy de Ufford. Elizabeth was born 1405 in Horsfordburgh, St. Margaret's, Norfolk, England.

    • Henrique Salas Römer (17 April 1936 -) is a Venezuelan economist (a graduate of Yale University), politically active in Venezuela since 1983. He was the governor of Carabobo (1990 - 1996), being succeeded by his son, Henrique Salas Feo. In 1998 he ran for the presidency of Venezuela as the candidate of Project Venezuela, a national party developing out of Salas Römer's regional Project Carabobo party.
