Abram Fedorovich (or Fyodorovich) Ioffe was a prominent Russian/Soviet physicist of Jewish origin born in Romny. He was awarded Stalin Prize in 1942, Lenin Prize in 1960 (posthumously), Hero of Socialist Labor in 1955.

  • "Bathhouse" John Coughlin (1860-1938) was an alderman of Chicago's First Ward from 1893 until his death in 1938. Coughlin acquired his nickname as a result of working in a bathhouse as a masseur. Eventually he was able to purchase a tavern and several bathhouses of his own. Coughlin and his partner, fellow First Ward alderman Michael "Hinky Dink" Kenna, were known as the "Lords of the Levee," a district which was part of their ward.

  • Arresø is a lake located at 56°00′00″N 12°04′00″E / 56°N 12.0666667°E / 56; 12.0666667, in Region Hovedstaden just north of Ølsted and east of Frederiksværk in Denmark. At 39.87 km² (15.39 sq mi) Arresø is Denmark's largest lake, based on area. The lake runs into Roskilde Fjord through the Arresø Canal in Frederiksværk. The canal was begun in about 1717 by royal command, and the work was carried out by Danish soldiers and Swedish POW's.
