Foi escrivão da administração do concelho de Velas em 1881, tendo, por motivos políticos e intelectuais, sustentado forte polémica com João Duarte de Sousa, outro historiador jorgense e opositor político, sobre a historiografia da ilha.     • João Duarte de Sousa, some refer to J. Duarte de Sousa, (Velas, October 23, 1862 – Angra do Heroísmo, May 29, 1909), was an Azorean politician and a historian. He was a pioneer on the island history of São Jorge. João Duarte de Sousa served as a writer in the Velas town hall, where he remained for 24 years (in 1886). For his elevation in Terceira with Maria Carlota Rebelo.
    • João Teixeira Soares de Sousa, an Azorean politician and an investigator of Azorean history, anthropology, and ethnography, was born on the island of São Jorge in the municipality of Velas and the parish of Manadas on 12 September 1827, and he died at Ponta Delgada on São Miguel Island on 1 February 1875. In general, he is referred to as Dr. João Teixeira Soares.
    • Pedro de Merelim was a pseodynum of the Portuguese-born historian and ethnographer Joaquim Gomes da Cunha. He was born in the parish of São Pedro de Merelim, Braga, he moved to the Azores and signed to the Corpo Expedicionário (Expeditionary Body) in which it was headed for the archipelago during the Second World War. He was settled in Angra do Heroísmo and was later involved in important investigator work of history and locla tradition, he publicated several volumes on these themes.

    • The Aux Sables River, also known as Rivière aux Sables, is a river in Ontario which flows from Lac aux Sables and empties into the Spanish River near the town of Massey. At one time, this river was used to transport logs to sawmills downstream. It flows through Chutes Provincial Park, which was named after chutes used to bypass rapids on this river. The river is now mainly used for recreational canoeing, and kayaking.
