The Rothschild family (known as The House of Rothschild, or more simply as the Rothschilds) is a European dynasty of German Jewish origin that established European banking and finance houses from the late 1700s. Five brothers of the Austrian branch of the family were given hereditary baronies of the Habsburg Empire by Emperor Francis II in 1816. The British branch of the family was elevated into the nobility by Queen Victoria.
Benjamin Olinde Rodrigues (1795–1851), more commonly known as Olinde Rodrigues, was a French banker, mathematician, and social reformer. Rodrigues was born into a well-to-do Portuguese Jewish family in Bordeaux, France. Rodrigues was awarded a doctorate in mathematics on 28 June 1815 by the University of Paris. His dissertation contains the result now called Rodrigues' formula. After graduation, Rodrigues became a banker.
Achille Fould (November 17, 1800 – October 5, 1867) was a French financier and politician. Born in Paris, the son of a successful Jewish banker, he was associated with and afterwards succeeded his father in the management of the business. As early as 1842 he entered political life, having been elected in that year as a deputy for the department of the Hautes-Pyrénées. From that time to his death he actively busied himself with the affairs of his country.
Jules Paul Benjamin Delessert (14 February 1773 – 1847) was a French banker and naturalist. He was born at Lyon, the son of Étienne Delessert (1735–1816), the founder of the first fire insurance company and the first discount bank in France. Young Delessert was travelling in England when the French Revolution broke out, but he hastened back to join the Paris National Guard in 1790, becoming an officer of artillery in 1793.
Henri Cernuschi (Enrico Cernuschi in Italian) (1821-02-19 in Milan - 1896-05-11 in Menton), was a major French banker, economist and Asian art collector, who started off as an Italian politician in 1848-1850. He was born of wealthy parents at Milan, and was destined for the legal profession. During his studies he became involved in the revolutionary movement.
NIMBY or Nimby is an acronym for not in my back yard. The term (or the derivative Nimbyism) is used pejoratively to describe opposition by residents to a proposal for a new development close to them. Opposing residents themselves are sometimes called Nimbies. The Flag of the State of South Carolina dates back to 1765 when opponents of the Stamp Act marched in protest behind a blue flag bearing three white crescents. In 1775 Colonel William Moultrie was asked by the Revolutionary Council of Safety to design a flag for the South Carolina troops to use during the American Revolutionary War. Moutrie's design had the blue of the militia's uniforms and the crescent from the emblem on their caps.
Roquel Billy Davis (July 11, 1932 - September 2, 2004) of Detroit was an American songwriter, record producer, and singer. Davis is best known as a songwriter for a number of soul musicians label, and as a writer/producer of commercial jingles, mostly for Coca-Cola. Early in his career, Davis worked with an early version of The Four Tops called "The Four Aims", which included his cousin Lawrence Payton.
Hypsibema is a little-known genus of dinosaur from the Late Cretaceous. Its giant fossils were found in the U.S. states of North Carolina and Missouri.
