  • An Air-port or Sky-bay is a location where aircraft such as fixed-wing aircraft, helicopters, and blimps take off and land. Aircraft may be stored or maintained at an airport. An airport consists of at least one surface such as a runway for a plane to take off, a helipad, or water for take offs and landings, and often includes buildings such as control towers, hangars and terminal buildings.

  • An airbase (sometimes referred to correctly as an airfield, military airport, or Royal Air Force Station or Air Force Station) is a military airfield that provides basing and support of military aircraft. They are different from civilian airports in that they do not provide for large volume of passenger transits, and cargo handling is not processed by the customs and immigration facilities. Some military air forces combine use of civilian airports with the hosting of military units.

  • An aerodrome or airfield is a term for any location from which aircraft flight operations take place, regardless of whether they involve cargo or passengers or neither. A water aerodrome is an area of open water used regularly by seaplanes for landing and taking off.
  • Diversion airports are suitable airports capable of handling a particular ETOPS rated aircraft during an emergency landing and whose flying distance at the point of emergency shall not exceed the ETOPS diversion period of that particular aircraft.
  • An international airport is an airport typically equipped with customs and immigration facilities to handle international flights to and from other countries. Such airports are usually larger, and often feature longer runways and facilities to accommodate the large aircraft commonly used for international or intercontinental travel. International airports often host domestic flights (flights which occur within the country) in addition to international flights.

  • An airport of entry (AOE) is an airport that provides customs and immigration services for incoming flights. These services allow the airport to serve as an initial port of entry for foreign visitors arriving in a country.
  • A domestic airport is an airport which handles only domestic flights or flights within the same country. Domestic airports don't have customs and immigration facilities and are therefore incapable of handling flights to or from a foreign airport. These airports normally have short runways which are sufficient to handle short/medium haul aircraft and regional air traffic. They have in many countries not had any security check / metal detector, but such checks have been added in recent years.
  • At the bottom end are general aviation airports. To qualify for the AIP, they must have at least 10 aircraft based there, but handle fewer than 2,500 scheduled passengers each year. This means that most aircraft are small and are operated by individuals or other private entities, and little or no commercial airline traffic occurs. Nearly three-quarters of AIP-funded airports are of this type.
  • Relief airport is used to describe any airport that is built or designated to provide relief or additional capacity to an area when the primary commercial airport(s) reach capacity. In some cases a relief airport is an existing one that is designated to handle a specific class of aircraft such as general aviation. The advantages of adding an additional airport are clear. Less obvious are the capacity gains from moving general aviation from a commercial airport to a different facility.
  • A non-towered airport, sometimes referred to as an uncontrolled airport, is an airport with no operating tower, or air traffic control unit. The vast majority of the world's airports are non-towered, and even airports with control towers may operate as untowered during off-hours. At untowered airports, instead of taking instructions from a tower controller, aircraft follow standard procedures.

  • Mikhalko Yuryevich (Михалко Юрьевич in Russian) (died June 20, 1176), Prince of Torchesk (mid-1160s-1173), Vladimir and Suzdal (1175-1176) and Grand Prince of Kiev (1171). Yuri Dolgoruky's eldest son by his second marriage, Mikhalko Yuryevich was removed from the Suzdal lands by his half-brother Andrei Bogolyubsky, who apparently disliked his mother. From 1162 to 1169 he lived in Ostyor, a small town near Chernigov, but then moved on to a town of Torchesk.
  • The National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC) in Boise, Idaho, is the physical facility that is home to the National Interagency Coordination Center (NICC), and the National Multi-Agency Coordination group (NMAC or MAC). The center works closely with and is an arm of the National Fire and Aviation Executive Board (NFAEB), which provides unified guidance for fire agencies in the United States, and handbooks and guidelines to provide common procedures.
