  • Titanic is a 1997 American disaster/romantic/drama film directed, written, co-produced, and co-edited by James Cameron about the sinking of the RMS Titanic. It stars Leonardo DiCaprio as Jack Dawson and Kate Winslet as Rose DeWitt Bukater, two members of different social classes who fall in love aboard the ill-fated maiden voyage of the ship.

  • Tora! Tora! Tora! is a 1970 American-Japanese film that dramatizes the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, to the extent these facts were known at the time of production. The commanders in Hawaii, General Short and Admiral Kimmel, though scapegoated for decades, are portrayed as taking defensive measures for the apparent threats, including relocation of the fighter aircraft at Pearl Harbor to the middle of the base, in response to fears of sabotage from local Japanese insurgents.

  • The Bounty is a 1984 historical film made by Dino De Laurentiis Productions and distributed by Orion Pictures Corporation and Thorn EMI Screen Entertainment. It was directed by Roger Donaldson and produced by Bernard Williams with Dino De Laurentiis as executive producer. The screenplay was by Robert Bolt and was based on the book Captain Bligh and Mr. Christian (1972) by Richard Hough. The music score was composed by Vangelis and the cinematography was by Arthur Ibbetson.

  • The Battle of the River Plate is a 1956 British war film by director-writer team of Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger, starring John Gregson, Anthony Quayle and Peter Finch. In the United States the film was retitled Pursuit of the Graf Spee. The film portrays the Battle of the River Plate, a naval battle of 1939, between a Royal Navy force of three cruisers and the German pocket battleship Admiral Graf Spee.

  • The Sea Wolves is a 1980 war film starring Gregory Peck, Roger Moore and David Niven. The film is based on the book Boarding Party by James Leasor, which itself is based on a real incident which took place in the Second World War. The incident involved the Calcutta Light Horse's covert attack against a German merchant ship which had been transmitting information to U-boats from Mormugao Harbour in neutral Portugal's territory of Goa on 9 March 1943.

  • Hostile Waters is a British 1997 television film about the loss of the K-219, a Yankee I class nuclear ballistic missile sub. The film stars Rutger Hauer as the commander of K-219 and claims to be based on the true story. The film was produced by World Productions for the BBC and HBO, in association with Invision Productions and UFA Filmproduktions. It was written by Troy Kennedy Martin and directed by David Drury, and was first transmitted on BBC One on 26 July 1997.

  • The Perfect Storm is a 2000 sea-faring action film adapted from the book of the same title by Sebastian Junger. The film was directed by Wolfgang Petersen and features George Clooney, Mark Wahlberg, William Fichtner, John C.   • Mutiny on the Bounty is a 1935 film starring Charles Laughton and Clark Gable, and directed by Frank Lloyd based on the Charles Nordhoff and James Norman Hall novel Mutiny on the Bounty. The film was one of the biggest hits of its time and remains a classic today and, although its historical accuracy has been seriously questioned (inevitable as it is based in a novel about the facts, not the facts themselves) it is considered by film critics to be the best film inspired by the mutiny.

  • Mutiny on the Bounty is a 1962 film starring Marlon Brando, based on the novel Mutiny on the Bounty by Charles Nordhoff and James Norman Hall. The film retells the 1789 real-life mutiny aboard H.M.A.V. Bounty led by Fletcher Christian against the ship's captain, William Bligh. It is the second American film to be made from the novel, the first being Mutiny on the Bounty. It was directed by Lewis Milestone, who replaced Carol Reed early on location shooting.

  • Above Us the Waves is a 1955 war film directed by Ralph Thomas, the film tells the true story of the human torpedo and midget submarine attacks on the German battleship Tirpitz. The film is based around the true-life attacks on the Tirpitz, first using using manned torpedoes, and then using the Royal Navy's midget X class submarines in Operation Source. Some of the original equipment was used in the film.

  • The Search for Kennedy's PT 109 is a National Geographic television special and video. It documents the original story of John F. Kennedy's PT 109 from WWII, and the project of Dr. Robert Ballard's successful search for the wreck of the boat. They meet and interview Biuku Gasa and Eroni Kumana, the original two natives who found Kennedy's shipwrecked crew when the US Navy had given them up for dead.
  • Deep Water is a documentary film, produced by Jonny Persey, opening in the UK on 15 December 2006. It is based on the true story of Donald Crowhurst and the 1969 Sunday Times Golden Globe Race round the world alone in a yacht. The film has received critical acclaim. The official poster quotes The Daily Telegraph, "A movie which will reduce the hardest of hearts to a shipwreck".

  • Atlantic is a British black and white film, directed and produced by Ewald André Dupont and starring Franklin Dyall and Madeleine Carroll. Three versions were made, one in the United Kingdom, one in Germany, and one in France (Atlantis, 1930). There was a further version released in Denmark, although this was a silent film and used different footage and an altered storyline.
  • Britannic is a romantic drama film directed by Brian Trenchard-Smith. It stars Edward Atterton and Amanda Ryan as star-crossed lovers on the forgotten sister ship of the RMS Titanic, the HMHS Britannic. The film's co-stars include Jacqueline Bisset, Ben Daniels, John Rhys-Davies and Bruce Payne.

  • Storm Over the Pacific is a 1960 color Japanese film directed by Shūe Matsubayashi. It is the first color widescreen war film from Toho Studios. It was made in 1960 by many of the same individuals behind the Godzilla franchise, such as producer Tomoyuki Tanaka special effects director Eiji Tsuburaya, and assistant special effects director Teruyoshi Nakano. It was released in 1961 in the United States in a dubbed and abridged 98 minute version directed by Hugo Grimaldi as I Bombed Pearl Harbor.
