The film is based on the screenplay by Joseph Stefano, who adapted it from the 1959 novel of the same name by Robert Bloch. The novel was based on the crimes of Wisconsin serial killer Ed Gein. The film depicts the encounter between a secretary, Marion Crane, who is in hiding at a motel after embezzling from her employer, and the motel's owner, Norman Bates, and the aftermath of their encounter.

  • Saving Private Ryan is a 1998 American war film set during the invasion of Normandy in World War II. It was directed by Steven Spielberg and written by Robert Rodat.   • Going My Way, a 1944 film directed by Leo McCarey. It is a light-hearted musical comedy/drama about a new young priest taking over a parish from an established old veteran. Crosby sings five songs in the film. It was followed the next year by a sequel, The Bells of St. Mary's. This picture was the highest-grossing picture of 1944. Its success helped to make movie exhibitors choose Crosby as the biggest box-office draw of the year, a record he would hold for the remainder of the 1940s.

It centers on the life of John Reed, the revolutionary communist, journalist, and writer who chronicled the Russian Revolution in his book Ten Days that Shook the World.   • The Love Parade is a 1929 musical comedy film. The plot concerns the romantic difficulties of Queen Louise of Sylvania and her new husband, Count Alfred. Though Count Alfred promises to be a docile husband at the wedding during their vows, he quickly regrets his decision when unable to make orders that will be obeyed and becomes bored. Threatening to leave for Paris, he is only deterred by Queen Louise when she gives him the equivalent of a king's power. At this point, the film ends.
