    Mac OS X is the newest of Apple Inc. 's Mac OS line of operating systems. Although it is officially designated as simply "version 10" of the Mac OS, "version 9" had a completely different codebase, file system, design, and hardware support. Mac OS had been Apple's primary operating system since 1984, and the family was backward compatible, so Mac OS X supported an emulated version 9 until version 10.5.

    Safari is a web browser developed by Apple. First released as a public beta on January 7, 2003 on the company's Mac OS X operating system, it became Apple's default browser beginning with Mac OS X v10.3 "Panther. " Safari is also the native browser for the iPhone OS.     Open Firmware, or OpenBoot in Sun Microsystems parlance, is a standard defining the interfaces of a computer firmware system, formerly endorsed by the IEEE.     Bonjour, formerly Rendezvous, is Apple Inc. 's trade name for its implementation of Zeroconf, a service discovery protocol. Bonjour locates devices such as printers, other computers, and the services that those devices offer on a local network using multicast Domain Name System service records. The software is built into Apple's Mac OS X operating system from version 10.2 onward and can be installed onto computers using Microsoft Windows operating systems.

    iChat (formerly iChat AV) is an instant messaging software application by Apple Inc. for their Mac OS X operating system. It has audio, video and screen-sharing capabilities as well as text messaging. iChat can serve as a client for AOL Instant Messenger (AIM), MobileMe, ICQ and XMPP. It uses a XMPP-like protocol and Bonjour for user discovery and it also allows for LAN communication. iChat's AIM support is fully endorsed by AOL, and uses their official implementation of the AIM OSCAR protocol.

    FileVault is a system that protects files on a Macintosh computer. It can be found in the Mac OS X v10.3 ("Panther") operating system and later. FileVault uses encrypted file systems that are mounted and unmounted when the user logs into or out of the system. The user's home directory is encrypted using the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) algorithm with a key derived from the user's login password. A master password can be set as a precaution against a user losing his or her password.

It allows the creation and viewing of photographically captured panoramas and the exploration of objects through images taken at multiple viewing angles.     Installer is an application included in Mac OS X which extracts and installs files out of . pkg packages. It was created by NeXT, and is now maintained by Apple Inc. Its purpose is to help software developers create uniform software installers. Installer resides at /Applications/Utilities/Installer. app on Macintosh computers running Mac OS X versions prior to 10.5, and launches when a package or metapackage file is opened.
