  • "The Black Cat" is a short story by Edgar Allan Poe. It was first published in the August 19, 1843, edition of The Saturday Evening Post. It is a study of the psychology of guilt, often paired in analysis with Poe's "The Tell-Tale Heart". In both, a murderer carefully conceals his crime and believes himself unassailable, but eventually breaks down and reveals himself, impelled by a nagging reminder of his guilt.

  • Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats is a collection of whimsical poems by T. S. Eliot about feline psychology and sociology, published by Faber and Faber. It is widely known as the basis for the record-setting musical Cats. The poems were written during the 1930s and included by Eliot, under his assumed name "Old Possum", in letters to his godchildren.

  • Hello Kitty, is a fictional character produced by the Japanese company Sanrio, first designed by Ikuko Shimizu. She is a staple of the kawaii segment of Japanese popular culture. The character is portrayed as a female white Japanese bobtail cat with a red bow and no drawn mouth. She lives in London, England with her parents and twin sister, Mimmy. Her first appearance on an item, a vinyl coin purse, was introduced in Japan in 1974 and brought to the United States in 1976.

  • The name Snowball refers to five fictional cats that have been owned by the Simpson family in the TV show The Simpsons. The differences between them are: Snowball, a white female cat who died and only briefly appeared in a flashback in the series, but has been mentioned numerous times. Snowball II, a dark grey female cat which was the cat owned from the first episode up until her death in the episode "I, (Annoyed Grunt)-Bot".

  • ThunderCats was an animated television series produced by Rankin/Bass Productions debuting in 1985, based on the characters created by Tobin "Ted" Wolf. The animation was provided by Pacific Animation Corporation, the working name for a collective of Japanese studios including Topcraft, a group who would later go on to form Studio Ghibli. of the show aired in 1985 (65 episodes), followed by a TV movie entitled ' in 1986.

  • The Amazing Maurice and his Educated Rodents is the 28th novel in Terry Pratchett's Discworld series, published in 2001. It was the first Discworld book to be aimed at the younger market; this was followed by The Wee Free Men in 2003. This book is not the first time that Maurice and his Educated Rodents are mentioned: they are referenced as early as Reaper Man, which was published in 1991. The novel won the Carnegie Medal in 2001, providing Pratchett with his first major award.

  • Thomas "Tom" Cat is a fictional character and half of the academy-award winning Tom & Jerry cartoon cat-and-mouse duo. He is a blue/grey anthropomorphic cat who first appeared in the 1940 animated short Puss Gets the Boot. Tom was originally known as "Jasper" during his debut in that short, however, beginning from his next appearance in The Midnight Snack and onwards, he is known as "Tom". Unlike popular belief, "Jasper" is not his last name.
