  • Rod Cory Langway is a retired American professional ice hockey defenseman who played for the Montreal Canadiens and Washington Capitals in the National Hockey League (NHL) and Birmingham Bulls of the World Hockey Association (WHA). Langway also spent time with teams in the American Hockey League (AHL) and East Coast Hockey League (ECHL). A two-time winner of the James Norris Memorial Trophy as the top defenceman in the NHL, Langway was elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2002.
  • Derian Hatcher (born June 4, 1972) is a retired American professional ice hockey defenseman who played for the Dallas Stars, Detroit Red Wings, and Philadelphia Flyers of the National Hockey League (NHL). He is the younger brother of former NHL player Kevin Hatcher.
  • Bryan Wallace Berard (born March 5, 1977) is an American professional ice hockey player, currently a free agent. He was the first overall pick in the 1995 NHL Entry Draft by the Ottawa Senators. He is most noted for a debilitating eye injury he received early in his career. He also attended Mount Saint Charles Academy.
  • Brian Joseph Leetch (born March 3, 1968 in Corpus Christi, Texas) is a retired American professional ice hockey defenseman who played 18 National Hockey League (NHL) seasons with the New York Rangers, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Boston Bruins. He is generally considered one of the top defensemen in NHL history, being particularly noted for his skating, offense, and playmaking abilities. He and fellow Rangers teammate Mike Richter were inducted into the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame in 2008.

  • Peter Laviolette Jr. (born December 7, 1964) is a retired American National Hockey League (NHL) defenseman and current head coach of the Philadelphia Flyers. From 2003-2008, he was the head coach of the Carolina Hurricanes, which he led to a Stanley Cup championship in the 2005-06 season. As a player, Laviolette spent the majority of his 10-year career playing for various minor league teams. He played twelve games in the NHL for the New York Rangers in the 1988–89 season.
  • Brian Christopher Rafalski is an American professional ice hockey defenseman for the Detroit Red Wings of the National Hockey League (NHL) and an alternate captain of the US Olympic Team for the 2010 Winter Olympics. Prior to joining the Red Wings, Rafalski played seven seasons with the New Jersey Devils. After struggling to enter the NHL, Rafalski has won the Stanley Cup three times and become an effective defenseman in the league.

A graduate of the Cushing Academy, Poti moved on to play for Boston University of Hockey East. At BU Poti became the first defenseman since Dave Archambault to win the Beanpot MVP. Poti was drafted in the third round of the 1996 NHL Entry Draft, 59th overall, by the Edmonton Oilers.

He is the older brother of Michael Sauer, also a defenseman who is a prospect in the New York Rangers organization. His older brother, Kent Sauer, was a draftee of the Nashville Predators. He was forced to retire due to knee problems.

  • Dallas F. Eakins is a former American ice hockey defenseman and current head coach of the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League. Eakins was drafted 208th overall by the Washington Capitals in the 1985 NHL Entry Draft. He went on to play 120 career NHL games, scoring no goals and 9 assists for 9 points. However, the majority of Eakins career was played in the AHL and the IHL.

  • Craig W. Wolanin is a retired professional ice hockey defenseman who played thirteen seasons in the National Hockey League from 1985 until 1997–98. After graduating from De La Salle Collegiate High School in Warren, Michigan, Wolanin was drafted third overall by the New Jersey Devils in the 1985 NHL Entry Draft. He played 695 career NHL games, scoring 40 goals and 133 assists for 173 points. He won a Stanley Cup with the Colorado Avalanche in 1996.
