It was produced by Charles/Burrows/Charles Productions in association with Paramount Television for NBC, having been created by the team of James Burrows, Glen Charles, and Les Charles. The show is set in the Cheers bar (named for the toast "Cheers") in Boston, Massachusetts, where a group of locals meet to drink, relax, chat and have fun.

  Comic Strip Live is a weekly, late-night, hour-long stand-up comedy showcase that aired on the Fox network from 1989-1994. It was originally hosted by John Mulrooney and filmed at the comedy club, Igby's. Mulrooney was replaced by Gary Kroeger for the second season and then Wayne Cotter for the remaining seasons.
