  The Florida State University (commonly referred to as Florida State or FSU) is a space-grant and sea-grant public university located in Tallahassee, Florida, United States. It is a comprehensive doctoral research university with medical programs and significant research activity as determined by the Carnegie Foundation.   The Florida State Seminoles are the men's and women's sports teams of Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida. Florida State participates in the NCAA's Division I (Division I FBS for football). FSU joined the Atlantic Coast Conference in 1992 and competes in the Atlantic Division for sports split into divisional format. The athletic director is Colonel Randy Spetman, who was introduced on February 4, 2008.

  The Florida State Seminoles football team is a college football program that competes in NCAA Division I-FBS and the Atlantic Division of the Atlantic Coast Conference. Florida State has won two national championships (1993 and 1999) and finished in the top five of the AP Poll for 14 straight years from 1987 through 2000. Florida State has produced two Heisman Trophy winners: quarterback Charlie Ward in 1993 and quarterback Chris Weinke in 2000. The head coach of the team is Jimbo Fisher.
