•  Alexander of Hales

  Alexander Hales (also Halensis, Alensis, Halesius, Alesius; called Doctor Irrefragabilis and Theologorum Monarcha) was a scholastic theologian. He was born at Hales, England ca. 1183, and died in Paris on August 21, 1245. He was educated at Oxford, studied and lectured at Paris, and by 1210 was a master of the sacred page in the faculty of theology. He entered the Franciscan order sometime around 1236 thus creating the first formal connection between the Order and the University of Paris.

  Helen of Galloway,, also known as Ela, was the daughter and co-heiress of Alan, Lord of Galloway and Hilda or Helen de L'Isle daughter of Rognvald Sumarlidasson, Lord of the Isles and Fonia of Moray.. Helen had two half-sisters and co-heiresses, Devorguilla (or 'Derborgaill', mother of King John of Scotland), and Christina (or 'Cairistiona').   Ramon Berenguer IV (1195 – 19 August 1245), Count of Provence and Forcalquier, was the son of Alfonso II of Provence and Garsenda of Sabran, heiress of Forcalquier. After his father's death (1209), Ramon was imprisoned in the castle of Monzón, in Aragon until he was able to escape in 1219 and claim his inheritance. He was a powerful and energetic ruler who added Forcalquier to his domain.

  Geoffrey II Villehardouin (1195 – 1245) was a Prince of Achaea, the first son of Geoffrey I Villehardouin. He was recognized by the Latin Emperor of Constantinople Peter II of Courtenay. In 1217 he married the daughter of Peter the Emperor and Yolanda of Flanders, Agnes de Courtenay. Following his father's policy, he dissatisfied the Latin priests by restricting their activities and finances, and he was excommunicated by the Pope.

  Robert of Strathearn, who ruled Strathearn 1223-1245, is the fourth known Mormaer of Strathearn, but of course this is simply a source problem and certainly does not mean that he actually was the fourth. Robert was the fourth son of Mormaer Gille Brigte. Not much is known of his reign, but we do know that in 1237 he travelled to York as part of the Scottish delegation who negotiated the Treaty of York.

  Isabel de Bolebec, Countess of Oxford (1165 – 3 February 1245) was eldest daughter and co-heiress of Hugh II de Bolebec, lord of Whitchurch, Buckinghamshire, England (d. c. 1166) and his wife Margaret de Montfichet. Isabel was a patroness of the Order of Friars Preacher in England. His name may suggest that he came from the semi-Gaelicized family of Flemish origin who were Lords of Duffus, and who during Gilbert's episcopate would create the Earldom of Sutherland under Gilbert's possible cousin, William de Moravia, 1st Earl of Sutherland.
